ATLANTA, Feb. 6, 2012- Porsche Cars North America today announced that the new Porsche 911 Carrera and Carrera S models have arrived in Porsche showrooms around the country. The latest generation of the iconic Porsche 911 is on-sale now.

Following its media introduction last fall, journalists world-wide have titled this latest 911 as the best yet. All early indicators point to it remaining every bit the icon it has been since its 1964 debut.

“Whether this will be a customer’s first or just their latest Porsche 911, it’s going to be the most invigorating ownership experience yet,” said Detlev von Platen, President and CEO of Porsche Cars North America. “The 911 Carrera and Carrera S are the ultimate choices for drivers who want the fun and excitement of a true benchmark-setting sports car week in and week out, not just for show or play during the weekends.”

For 2012, the 911 has been completely redesigned from the ground up. The newest incarnation applies singular balance to the priorities of a new era, preserving the classic 911 lines, yet revisiting every inch for advances in power and fuel economy. While still instantly recognizable as a Porsche 911 at a glance, 90 percent of the 2012 911′s components are either new or fundamentally revised.

Longer, lower, wider, 100 lbs. lighter, faster and more efficient than previous models, the 911 is the perfect blend of modern design, intelligent engineering and performance DNA.

In addition to aesthetic improvements, both new models offer significant performance enhancements. The 2012 911 Carrera is equipped with a new, 350-horsepower, 3.4-liter boxer engine that provides five more horsepower (HP) than the outgoing 3.6-liter engine, while the Carrera S features a 400 HP, 3.8-liter boxer engine–a 15 HP improvement versus its predecessor. The 911 Carrera with Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) accelerates from zero to 60 in 4.4 seconds, while the Carrera S sprints from zero to 60 in a mere 4.1 seconds. That time is reduced even further to 3.9 seconds when equipped with the Sports Chrono Package Plus. Top-track-speeds for the 911 Carrera and Carrera S are 179 and 188 mph, respectively.

As with every generation, the new 911 Carrera continues to raise the bar in both performance and efficiency. This is achieved through systems such as the Automatic Start/Stop function, engine and transmission thermal management, electrical system recuperation, the world’s first seven-speed manual transmission and–in conjunction with PDK–the ability to ‘sail’ or coast. The new electro-mechanical power steering offers the typical Porsche precision and helps to increase efficiency and reduce fuel consumption.

The new 911 Carrera Coupe has a base MSRP of $82,100, and the 911 Carrera S Coupe starts at $96,400 (excluding destination fees).

SCHAUMBURG, Ill., Feb. 6, 2012 - Verizon Wireless announced today it invested $166 million in 2011 to enhance its existing network in Illinois, which includes the expansion of 4G LTE to Rockford and Springfield, Illinois; at the University of Illinois and five sporting venues across the Chicago area.

The company’s continuing investment to support Illinois’ infrastructure required for economic development and robust business growth included:

• Adding new cell sites and upgrading equipment on existing cell sites to increase coverage and capacity of the company’s voice and data network;
• Installing permanent backup generators at cell sites to ensure the network remains reliable during times of crisis;
• And prepping the backbone of the network to deploy 4G LTE at urban and rural locations across the state.

NEW YORK-Universally acclaimed UK rockers TRIBES will storm the U.S. on March 13, 2012 with the release of their full-length debut, Baby, in stores and online via Fairfax Recordings/Universal Republic Records. The band will also take their raw live performance across the U.S. for the first time, beginning on March 4 in Vail, CO, through Austin’s SXSW Festival and ending March 27 in Philadelphia, PA.

Like an intense intermingling of The Pixies and The Libertines, Baby could’ve been born during the legendary early ’90s alternative explosion of Surfer Rosa and Sonic Youth’s Dirty, but the album is utterly daring and diverse in its own right.

First single “We Were Children” skates from a dreamy hum of guitars into a resounding refrain that’s invigorating and infectious. “When My Day Comes” taps into propulsive post punk power fueled by a colorful chorus and airtight beat. On the other end of the spectrum, “Himalaya” is elegantly haunting as sparse drums and singer Johnny Lloyd’s inimitable howl entwine, while “Halfway Home” is a spacey breakup lullaby. Think of them as the alternative to “alternative.”

Fiat Professional’s New Ducato Euro 5 will feature prominently on the Fiat Professional stand (no.S140) at The Motorhome Caravan & Camping Show. Held at ExCeL, London (14–19 February, 2012), the new event will be the biggest motorhome, caravan and camping showcase to take place in London for over five years.

All the major UK and many European motorhome manufacturers’ stands will be displaying their new 2012 season models with many based on the new Ducato chassis, in van and coach-built versions. The new Ducato is the latest incarnation of the best-selling van whose five generations have picked up numerous international awards and sold more than 2.2 million vehicles since 1981.

The key to this success lies in Ducato’s ability to answer the specific requests of its customers, thanks to solid and dynamic design in combination with its functional dimensions.

New Euro 5 engines:  More power less fuel consumption

The new Ducato Euro 5 offers a wide range of new content and a renovated engine family that enhances its competitiveness in the segment, and offers the market the best in terms of performance, comfort, payload and running costs.

The new range of Euro 5 engines is more powerful and diverse. Each one is a leader in its power bracket in terms of consumption, emissions and performance.  The range includes two 2.3 MultiJet II engines with power outputs of 130 bhp and new 150 bhp respectively. There is also a new 3.0 litre 180 MultiJet Power Euro 5 engine.

All the new 2.3 litre Ducato engines are part of the second-generation MultiJet family, which represents technology, performance and economy.

All engines stand out for their exceptional performance, long service intervals, low consumption (saving up to 15% compared with Euro 4 engines) and CO₂ emissions well below legal limits, as well as for their quietness and relatively low weight, which is always important for a commercial/leisure vehicle where tonnage is a key factor.

Comfort-Matic robotised gearbox now available on all 3 engines

Each engine is available with a six-speed manual gearbox, and motorhome customers can now specify both 2.3 litre engines in addition to the 3.0-litre with the six-speed Comfort-Matic Manual Transmission Automated. This is a traditional manual transmission except there is no clutch pedal and the manual linkage to the gearbox is replaced by actuators controlled by a Transmission Control Unit. The shift is either performed automatically or the driver can use the gear lever to prompt changes by pulling backwards or pushing forwards.

In addition, the scheduled maintenance interval between services has been set at up to 48,000 km (30,000 miles).

New dashboard

As well as the engines, the latest Ducato offers new interior trims which offer varying degrees of luxury and elegance.

The dashboard is the real star of the revamp: the central console has been totally redesigned. The fully integrated sound system and glossy black surfaces provide a feeling of quality never before seen in a vehicle of this type. The redesign of the upper central part of the dashboard has generated space for the TomTom ‘my-port’, designed by Fiat to make its vehicles compatible with this important feature.

There is also an elegant wood trim, which uses DipPrint™ technology to simulate walnut wood, and was designed exclusively for the new Ducato to meet the requirements of the motorhome industry.

New improved infotainment features

Also available as an option is Blue&Me–TomTom LIVE. This device allows customers to manage – through a practical colour touch-screen – phone calls, satellite navigation, media and all the driving information required, which it downloads directly from the on-board computer systems. The new version has a next-generation capacitive touch-screen and TomTom LIVE services such as HD Traffic, which has been named as the best traffic information system currently on the market. This combines accurate traffic information with a dynamic route calculation, providing real-time updates of congestion, traffic jams and road closures.

Top-level safety

Another significant new feature is Traction+, an innovative traction control system that improves the vehicle’s handling on difficult terrain with poor grip.

The system uses the advanced hardware present on vehicles with ESP. The control unit uses specific brake system control and management algorithms to simulate the behaviour of a self-locking differential electronically.

When a driven wheel is in poor grip conditions, the control unit of the system detects where the slipping has occurred and instructs the vehicle’s hydraulics to perform a braking action on that wheel. It simultaneously transfers engine torque to the wheel on the surface with better grip. This makes the vehicle easier to drive, maintains directional stability and control, and ensures the best possible traction even over the roughest and most slippery surfaces. The system is operated by a button on the dashboard.

Daytime Running Lights (DRL), which switch-on the Ducato’s parking lights automatically with the ignition, are also available as an option.

The new Ducato was designed and developed with specialist manufacturers, for conversion into motorhomes, right from the drawing board, and now, with its new and improved features, it’s an even more ideal vehicle for the motorhome market.

Unique range of services dedicated to Fiat Motorhome customers

This particular attention to motorhome owners’ needs not only addresses the world of the product, but also that of services.

The dedicated website www.fiatcamper.comhas recently been revised to provide even more technical information, news and events as well as specific features such as Chassis check where Fiat Ducato motorhome owners can check if their vehicle is subject to an update or recall campaign.

Nissan has revealed the first details of a head-turning hatchback concept which previews the company’s next mainstream B-segment contender, to be sold alongside the Micra city car and innovative Juke crossover.

Called INVITATION, the dynamic concept – which will be unveiled at this year’s Geneva International Motor Show– shows some of the innovation and excitement promised for the new model, which is due to be launched in the UK from 2013.

Design dynamism

INVITATION is an energetic design, bringing fresh style, innovation and excitement to the mainstream market. The clean fluidity of the silhouette hints at its dynamic potential and showcases class-leading aerodynamics for enhanced efficiency.

The side of the car is dominated by a distinctive character line, known internally as the ‘Squash Line’, which adds a powerful dynamism to its profile with distinctive sculpted front and rear wings giving INVITATION a confident stance.

The National Meteorological Center(NMC) said in a statement Monday that it has maintained a blue alert for the cold spell, the lowest level in the country’s four-scale alert system.

From Monday evening to Wednesday evening, temperatures will plunge by six to eight degrees Celsius in most regions in central and eastern China, with some areas in northeastern China seeing temperature drops of as much as 14 degrees Celsius.

The cold spell will also bring strong northerly winds of level four to six to those regions, said the NMC.
Northerly winds of level seven to nine will swirl in the Bohai Sea, the Yellow Sea and the East China Sea, said the NMC.

Meanwhile, most regions in the eastern parts of southwest China and the mid- and lower-reaches of the Yangtze River will see frequent rainfall from Tuesday to Thursday, according to the NMC.

The NMC urged people in the affected regions to take caution against the cold wave and keep a close watch on the weather forecast for more information.

“I’m going to Disney World!”

Manning’s pronouncement, part of the production for one of TV’s most enduring and iconic Super Bowl commercials, was captured seconds after the final whistle. Manning – named the game’s MVP — completed 30 of 40 passes and amassed 296 yards, including his trademark fourth-quarter heroics, leading the Giants to the winning score.

Manning’s stellar performance was crucial in Sunday’s game and earned him a second “I’m going to Disney World!” accolade.  In 2008, Manning was treated to a hero’s welcome at Disney after leading the Giants to an upset win over the Patriots, 17-14, in Super Bowl XLII.

He becomes the first Giants quarterback to win two Super Bowls.

On Monday (Feb. 6), Manning is scheduled to go to the place where millions of vacationers make memories celebrating their own personal milestone moments – Walt Disney World Resort near Orlando, Fla. Manning will be joined in the Magic Kingdom by NFL Youth football players, who will participate with the Giants star in the Super Bowl celebration near Main Street, U.S.A.

This latest commercial is the 45th in a series that began in 1987 following Super Bowl XXI. The first “I’m going to Disney World” commercial, featuring Giants quarterback Phil Simms, was regarded as a groundbreaking concept – a produced national commercial involving a current event, airing on major networks within hours of its conclusion. Manning again joins a lineup of people from sports and beyond who have celebrated milestone accomplishments in “I’m Going to Disney World” commercials.
