HONG KONG, May 20 (Xinhua) — An earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale jolted off the east coast of Honshu, Japan early on Sunday (19:05:21 GMT Saturday), the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The epicenter, with a depth of 14.90 km, was initially determined to be at 39.7496 degrees north latitude and 143.2021 degrees east longitude, or 175 km east of Morioka.
