2011 Swedish retail trade growth lowest in 15 years
STOCKHOLM, Jan. 27 (Xinhua) — Turnover of retail trade in Sweden grew by 0.8 percent in the whole year of 2011 compared with the previous year, the lowest increase in 1996, Swedish Institute of Retail (HUI) said here on Friday.
Latest data suggested that Swedish retail sales grew by 1.5 percent in December 2011 from the same period a year earlier. A 2.4-percent increase in the sales of daily commodities helped pull up the retail sales data, but was partially offset by a one-percent increase of durable goods sales.
However, the December data seemed even weaker if measured in current prices, in which case the turnover of retail trade only grew by 0.7 percent year on year.
“The prospect in 2012 looks tough for retail trade, affected by the weakened Swedish economy and the less positive view on the future of household,” a HUI report said.
