EHSI: MedAnywhere Breakthrough Medical iPhone App Module Proceeds to Final Testing Phase

HOUSTON–Emerging Healthcare Solutions, Inc. (Pink Sheets:EHSI) disclosed today that their first comprehensive medical iPhone Application module named MedAnywhere HHC has entered the final phase of development. MedAnywhere is an iPhone application that contains several modules that are designed to reduce patient costs and allow direct physician monitoring. The MedAnywhere HHC module is scheduled for submission to iTunes by mid-September. VITEB is EHSI’s development partner on the MedAnywhere projects.

HHC is the disease that occurs as a result of significant iron overload and it can have genetic or non-genetic causes. HHC can cause major damage to the heart, liver, pancreas, joints and pituitary. If the extra iron is not removed, these organs can become diseased. Untreated Hemochromatosis can be fatal. Traditionally, HHC treatment requires numerous costly visits to the lab for blood work and expensive phlebotomy treatments performed at hospitals. The MedAnywhere© HHC module is being configured to allow a customer’s Hematocrit levels to be monitored by a doctor via the iPhone. As a result, customers are able to be directed by their doctor to have phlebotomy treatments done at blood donor centers, which usually perform the treatment for no charge. The MedAnywhere© HHC module is designed to allow many patient/customers to realize savings of thousands or even tens of thousands of dollars as a result.

Emerging Healthcare Solutions is developing the MedAnywhere app and modules for use on Apple’s (NASDAQ: AAPL) iPhone prior to developing the project for Google’s (NASDAQ: GOOG) Android and Research in Motion’s (NASDAQ: RIMM) BlackBerry devices. Emerging Healthcare Solutions focuses on the development of profitable emerging medical technology, a sector that also includes Amgen (NASDAQ: AMGN).

James Cameron and Avatar Cast Shine Spotlight on Real Battles to Defend ‘Pandoras on Earth’

“A Message From Pandora” Tells the Story of the Battle to Stop the Belo Monte Dam in the Amazon

Watch a 3-min Trailer on Avatar’s Movie website or on www.messagefrompandora.org

LOS ANGELES,  Timed with the re-release of Avatar in theatres today, acclaimed director James Cameron has teamed up with Amazon Watch to produce a short feature “A Message from Pandora.” The documentary spotlights the battle to stop the massive Belo Monte Dam Complex on the Xingu River in the Brazilian Amazon, which thousands of local Indigenous people have vowed to resist, citing its potential devastating impact on their communities and the rainforest environment. A 3-minute trailer of the feature was launched today on the Avatar’s movie website, inviting Avatar fans to join the campaign to stop the Belo Monte Dam and defend the rainforest.

James Cameron became inspired by the story after he and cast members of Avatar including Sigourney Weaver and Joel David Moore traveled to the Xingu River in April. During their trip, the delegation visited communities who would be adversely affected by the dam. The $17 billion project would divert the flow of the Xingu River; its reservoirs would flood 668 square kilometers, displace more than 20,000 people and generate methane — a greenhouse gas 25 times more potent than carbon dioxide.

Reflecting on his visit to the Xingu River, Cameron commented: “Here were people whose lives were going to be altered irrevocably, whose communities were going to be destroyed, literally put under water, or affected negatively as the river’s flow would change. For these people, it’s the end of their world, as they know it.”

Sigourney Weaver is also lending her support in defense of the Amazon and its people by collaborating with Amazon Watch, International Rivers, and Brazilian organizations on a state of the art digital animation to illustrate the devastating impacts of the dam– to be released next week.

“The Avatar spotlight comes at a critical time for the battle to stop the Belo Monte Dam. Just yesterday, the Brazilian government signed the contract to build the dam, ignoring warnings about the project’s serious ecological, financial and technical risks,” said Atossa Soltani, Executive Director of Amazon Watch.

Dell Eliminates Use of 18.2 Million Pounds of Packaging Since 2008

  • Progress Against Sustainable Packaging Content and Recyclability Goals Makes Packaging Disposal Easier for Customers, Better for the Planet
  • Recycled Plastic in Dell’s Packaging is Comparable to Milk Jugs Stretching from Florida to Maine

ROUND ROCK, Texas–In its effort to make product packaging more convenient for customers and less impactful on the planet, Dell has eliminated the use of more than 18.2 million pounds of packaging material since 2008. For perspective, that’s approximately the same weight as 226 fully-loaded 18-wheelers or almost 4,184 small pick-ups.

The reductions, reported yesterday in Dell’s 2009 Corporate Responsibility report, result from the company’s “three Cs” packaging strategy, which focuses on the cube (packaging volume); content (what it’s made of) and curbside recyclability of its packaging materials.

Dell revealed it has made significant progress toward its packaging content and curbside recyclability targets. Since 2008, the company has increased the amount of recycled content in its packaging to approximately 32 percent. Dell is now 94 percent of the way to achieving its stated goal of increasing recycled content in packaging to 35 percent by 2010, a 40 percent increase over 2008 levels. And more than half (57 percent) of Dell’s packaging materials can now be conveniently recycled by customers using their local curbside pick-up programs. The company is aiming for that number to be 75 percent by the end of 2012.

Joan Collins Wins Top Acting Award at the New York City International Film Festival

NEW YORK, — Joan Collins has won the best actress award at the New York City International film Festival for her stellar performance as an aging sex symbol in the dark, weird comedy “Fetish,” a LMDQ LLC production. Collins made television history playing the sultry, conniving vixen, Alexis Carrington Colby, on the legendary night-time soap opera “Dynasty.”

In her new short movie, directed by Matthew Pellowski, Collins–who has demonstrated that she can chew the scenery in campy roles–shows off her genuine acting chops. In “Fetish,” Collins offers a delicate balance of loopy comedy and tragic fragility. The film received a standing ovation at the Manhattan screening last Monday night at New World Stages Theater in Times Square, with an audience that included columnist Liz Smith, who commented on Collins, “Her beauty and her flamboyant style have sometimes obscured just how nuanced a performer she is. Those nuances are apparent in ‘Fetish’ where she conveys a surprising vulnerability.”

“Fetish,” written by and co-starring Charles Casillo, is a stylized piece which examines modern-day fame contrasted with loneliness, obsession and desperation by exploring the bizarre relationship between a fading movie star with an eccentric talk show host.

New York City International Film Festival president, Roberto Rizzo, said that he was blown away by Collins’ “tender, lovely performance,” adding, “She stunned the festival judges creating a completely different kind of character than the ones she is best known for.” Collins, who was in Europe during the award ceremony Thursday night, taped a heartfelt acceptance speech thanking the director, writer, and producers.

“Fetish” has already had a sensational premiere screening at the Academy Award-qualifying “LA Shorts Fest,” where the Hollywood audience was floored by Collins’ performance in a festival that included short films starring Christina Ricci, Kate Bosworth, Janeane Garofalo, Jack Black, Jason Patric, Jason Biggs, and Will Ferrell.

Working with a young and talented crew, Collins discarded the glamour and threw herself into the work winning the admiration of everyone from the executive producers to production interns. Matt Pellowski, the 31 year old director commented, “working with Joan was an absolute pleasure. She’s an icon, beautiful, smart, witty, talented and extremely dedicated to her craft. Her hard work and resilience was inspiring to the entire cast and crew.”

Writer and co-star Casillo said, “‘Fetish’ is only 28 minutes but Joan is on screen for every moment. It was a tight shooting schedule during a Manhattan blizzard but Joan worked long hours often shooting four pages of dialogue a day.” Her passion and dedication pays off in the movie. “With her performance she really takes the audience on a journey,” Casillo says. “It’s an enormously compelling character study of a beautiful, fragile celebrity coming undone. Through the course of the story, Joan drops the character’s bravado and manufactured allure and reveals the aching sensitivity underneath. But she doesn’t do it immediately. She slowly sheds layer after layer of a glitzy facade until, near the end, you actually feel her unraveling.”
